Britain has been making sitcoms for longer than almost anyone: the BBC put one on air in 1946, radio handed television Tony Hancock in the 1950s, and the form has never stopped reinventing itself, from rag-and-bone yards and seaside platoons to bedsits, holiday camps, newsrooms, parochial houses and pirate-radio flats. These 50 questions range across roughly forty shows and seven decades. Rather than retesting the famous lines, they ask who wrote and played the characters, where the shows were set and filmed, which ones were spun off, remade abroad or given sequels, who sang the theme tunes, and which BAFTAs went where. Fawlty Towers, Dad's Army, Porridge, The Good Life, Yes Minister, Father Ted, The Royle Family, Peep Show, Outnumbered, Fleabag, Derry Girls and Motherland all appear, alongside plenty you may have forgotten.
