The Amazing Spider-Man rebooted the web-slinger in 2012, five years after Sam Raimi's trilogy ended and two years after Spider-Man 4 collapsed. Marc Webb, fresh from 500 Days of Summer, cast Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, brought back the mechanical web-shooters, and made the Lizard the villain. The 2014 sequel added Jamie Foxx's Electro, Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn and a plan for a whole cinematic universe that Sony cancelled when it struck its deal with Marvel Studios.
